The winner of Big Brother has been announced in a truly shocking and emotional finale.

Big Brother has come to an end after a rather short but fun season of reality TV.

The Ten series, which first aired in 2001, took a journey to the Nine and Seven networks before coming back to Ten this year for a reboot that stripped the show back to its roots.

Monday night's Grand Finale saw the final five face off for Australia's votes, as Allana, Bruce, Coco, Colin and Emily duked it out to become the Big Brother winner, and take home over $135,000.

But first, came a twist: host Mel Tracina offered all five housemates the chance to drop out of the running by claiming a Suzuki Jimny XL car worth $43,000. Any takers? Allana and Bruce raised their hands, and after a game of cups, a victorious Allana fled the house and into the arms of a new car. Bye bye!

Bruce was the next eliminated, leaving Emily, Coco and Colin as the final three which quickly dropped down to the two women — making it the first all-female final two since 2003. Huge!

And the winner was… Coco.

She was reunited with her three kids on stage and there wasn't a dry eye in sight.

"Thank you so much. You don't know how much this means to me — every single one of you," the single mum said through sobs.

"My whole life I've never been accepted, so to be accepted by all of you."

But whether it was Coco or Emily who won, this is a huge step forward for Big Brother.

This is a series sadly known for picking bland men as its winners. Remember season one's Ben Williams, season two's Peter Corbett and season 11's Ryan Ginns? Me neither.

Time and time again, these sorts of nice-but-vanilla men won over true season-making women like Sara-Marie Fedele, Jess Hardy and future I'm A Celebrity winner, Skye Wheatley.

Australia's obsession with awarding a larrikin for doing the bare minimum knows no bounds.

All three seasons of Nine 2010s reboot were won by men, albeit some deserving winners in Benjamin Norris and Tim Dormer.

In the 15 seasons of Big Brother that have aired in various iterations in Australia, 10 seasons have been won by men. Two of those five seasons won by women were won by the same woman: Reggie Sorenson, naturally.

So yes, a single mum-of-three named Coco winning is a big deal.

Ahead of tonight's episode, disability advocate Conor and sales manager Edward were pipped at the finale five, as both gents were evicted in a savage double elimination on Sunday night.

For Edward, he was given his marching orders through a letter from his family, which is slightly better than Vinnie being evicted via *checks notes * cheerful Christmas carol.

Big Brother, you're a real sicko.

The big finale caps off a modest but eventful season. Despite only running four weeks — a huge downsize for a show that used to stretch into three months of wonderful viewing time — it still packed a punch.

There were fights, friendships breakups and simply way too much farting — especilly from a trio of men who became increasingly dominant in the house's hierachy. In one case, the oldest housemate, Jane, accused the three men of being 'disrespectful' towards women.

And then there were the romances that flourished: namely the controversial union between 21-year-old Colin and 31-year-old Holly which divided the house, and the slower burn romance between the more palatable (albeit a little, siblings or dating vibes??) blondes, Coco and Bruce.

If anything, it sure was an jam-packed season — and a history-making one, as well.
