Affordable international travel isn't dead. Here are 10 stays under $250.

If you've spent the last six months staring at flight prices and feeling personally victimised by your bank account, I have some genuinely excellent news.

According to Sarah King, Expedia's travel expert, 2026 is officially the year we get our "overseas fix" without having to survive on 2-minute noodles for the rest of the year.

"There is good value to be found when travelling overseas, particularly when travelling close to home," Sarah told Mamamia.

And by close to home? She means destinations under 15 hours away.

Basically, if you can handle a movie marathon and a couple of nap rotations on a plane, you're in the gold zone for affordability.

Sarah noted that a combination of a sturdy Aussie dollar and a surge in new flight routes is making the "dream holiday" actually doable.

"It's no surprise that Asia continues to be good value for Australians," Sarah said. "Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia are wallet-friendly destinations, with predicted accommodation averages sitting under $250 a night."

And it's not just the classic spots getting cheaper. We're seeing a massive shake-up in how we get there.

"New air routes are making travel so much more accessible and affordable," Sarah explained.

"With Jetstar's upcoming Sunshine Coast to Bali service, the relaunched Qantas flights from Perth to Johannesburg, and seasonal services with Air New Zealand to hop across the pond, Aussies have more options and likely competitive airfares."

"Guangzhou is gaining serious traction, especially with increased flights out of Sydney and Brisbane," said Sarah.
