The 3 skirts everyone will be wearing this spring.

After what feels like 17 months of terrible weather, spring is finally here.

And if the trend reports from Copenhagen Fashion Week and the street style scene are anything to go by, it's set to be a big season for skirts.

Whether they're mini, midi or maxi, skirts have the power to make an outfit. They can elevate the simplest of basics and make a statement with little effort.

If you choose well, a skirt in a great cut is one of those core wardrobe essentials you can rest easy knowing you'll get lots of wear out of.

Here are the three key styles to know about for spring, plus the best options to shop.

Midis in semi-sheer fabrics like organza and lace are everywhere right now, and they're honestly easier to execute than you think.

First things first — you don't have to show your knickers (unless you want to.)

Layering and contrast are essential factors when it comes to styling transparent skirts, which is why they work so well with oversized tees and blazers. Dial down the glam of an embellished midi by pairing it with casual outerwear, like an anorak or barn jacket.

Many styles on offer have a modesty panel or in-built slip, but if you're nervous about flashing someone, you can always wear bike shorts underneath for extra coverage.

This trending shape has the ease we're all looking for when the temperatures start to rise.

Straight "midaxi" skirts in neutral shades are ideal to throw on for summer days, while softer billowing shapes are perfect for events or picnics, and bring a romantic feel to any fit.

To give a full skirt some breathing room, try pairing it with a simple tank and sandals for weekends, or a cropped jacket and ballet flats for the office.

A few years ago, there was one style of skirt that was absolutely inescapable: the satin midi skirt.

The style has since evolved and elongated, and now we're seeing fluid floor-length maxis enter the chat.

Prints like polka dots and splashy florals make the vibe a little less dressy, but this cut is actually surprisingly versatile.

Team one with a plain tee or denim shirt for daytime, then add statement jewels and heels to pivot it into eveningwear.
