'Everyone's ditching lipstick for lip stains. Here are 7 of the best I've tried and tested.'

Open up any of my drawers or handbags, and chances are you'll find a stash of lipsticks, balms and glosses that have barely been touched.

That's because there's only one lip product I actually rely on: a tinted lip stain. I used to think it was just my pure laziness talking (I need something quick and that actually lasts), but it turns out I'm not the only one obsessed with this beauty product.

Thanks to K-beauty's obsession with "blurred lips," the whole "just-bitten" pout that lip stains give has been blowing up on social media.

The low-effort, natural-looking, high-impact look is exactly why lip stains have become so popular over the past few years. They're perfect for chucking in your gym bag, busy mornings, or for events and dinners. Basically, they're the ultimate low-fuss beauty hack.

These days, lip stains come in all kinds of formulas — from classic lightweight brush-ons to fun, innovative peel-off versions that go on metallic blue and peel away to reveal a natural flush of colour. Seriously, so cool.

But from buying and testing countless lip stains over many years, I know there are only a handful that are actually worth your valuable money. In other words, they don't fade, smudge or feather, they look great on, and they're worthy of their price tag.

So, below I've rounded up my all-time favourite lip stains — the ones that are able to survive coffee, avo toast, wine and… kissing…

The best lip stains to buy in Australia.

Peripera Ink Velvet Lip Tint 4g, $13.50.

If you're after that perfect matte finish (without creasing or cracking), this "weightless texture" tint from K-beauty fave Peripera is a top pick. It comes in a wide range of reds, pinks and neutrals, and it's packed with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, marine collagen and jojoba oil to keep your lips soft and comfy all day.

Rom&nd Juicy Lasting Tint 5.5g, $12.50 (usually $15.50).

Ask any K-beauty fan and there's a good chance they've tried this cult-favourite tint from Rom&nd. It's literally iconic. In my experience, it doesn't last quite as long as some other formulas out there, but the juicy gloss finish and the massive shade range more than make up for it, making it absolutely worth your money.

Dior Addict No-Transfer Lip Tint 5ml, $64.

It might be one of the more expensive options, but it's a favourite among shoppers and celebrity makeup artists. Expect up to 12 hours of no-transfer wear and up to 24 hours of hydration.

Wonderskin Wonder Blading Lip Stain Masque, $49.65.

There's a ninety-something per cent chance you've seen this viral lip stain all over your feed. Just apply it and leave it on for 10 to 45 seconds (go for 15 to 20 seconds if you're after a softer look, or 30 to 60 for something bolder). Then, simply wipe it off with a damp cloth or tissue to reveal a seriously pigmented stain that's smudge-proof, transfer-proof, water-resistant and mask-proof. Benefit Cosmetic Benetint Liquid Lip Blush and Cheek Tint, $42.

Ah, Benetint — it's a classic for a reason. This cult-favourite and consistent bestseller pulls double duty as a lip and cheek tint, leaving behind the perfect rosy flush. Bonus: it's got a hint of salicylic acid to gently exfoliate, so your lips and cheeks feel soft, smooth, and fresh all day.

Etude Dear Darling Water Tint 10g, $15.

While I'm a big fan of Benefit's Benetint, I love a good affordable dupe even more—and that's exactly what this Etude tint delivers. Don't let the tiny bottle fool you — it lasts ages. I've had my last one for months and have barely made a dent. Swipe on one layer for a subtle tint or build it up for a bolder look.

Clarins Water Lip Stain Lip Gloss, $49.

This one's a simple, no-fuss tint with a thin, water-like consistency (it's made with 77 per cent water) that gives your lips a sheer wash of long-lasting colour. It's so effective, it's even been tested to hold up through 300 kisses — no joke.
