I'm talking about the 2024 version of the classic tale.

You know the story. Young real estate agent Thomas gets sent to Transylvania to close a property deal with Count Orlok who becomes obsessed with Thomas's wife Ellen after seeing her portrait, creating a psychic connection between them.

It's a classic vampire horror but with Robert Eggers' incredible atmospheric direction. This hits all the same notes as Frankenstein — forbidden romance, gorgeous gothic vibes, and Bill Skarsgård being completely unrecognisable as the monster.

It's atmospheric horror done RIGHT.

Nosferatu is now streaming on Netflix and Binge.

What better to fill the Frankenstein-shaped hole in our lives than another Guillermo Del Toro masterpiece?

American writer Edith marries mysterious English baronet Thomas Sharpe and moves to his crumbling family mansion. The house is haunted by ghosts, but the real horror is the murderous, incestuous secrets of the Sharpe siblings.

This film is gothic romance perfection — decaying mansion, vulnerable heroine, dark mysterious man with baggage, and a house that's basically haunted by toxic love.

Guillermo Del Toro's visual feast.

Crimson Peak is available to rent or buy on Prime Video.

Based on Anne Rice's third Vampire Chronicles novel, this film takes her elegant vampire mythology and turns it into a rock-and-roll spectacle.

Vampire Lestat wakes up after centuries and becomes a rockstar, using his music to expose the vampire world. His concerts wake up Akasha, the original vampire queen, who wants to wipe out humanity and rule with Lestat.

Lestat is giving tortured artist energy — seeking connection through his art and being generally brooding and beautiful about it. It's peak early 2000s gothic vibes— all the vampire angst you love.

Francis Ford Coppola's lavish take frames Dracula's reign of terror as an epic tragedy of broken love. The story reveals that Count Dracula was once a 15th-century Romanian prince who cursed God in his grief after his beloved Elisabeta took her own life.

Fast-forward centuries, and he becomes convinced that Mina Harker is his lost love reincarnated, setting off for London in a beautiful but terrifying storm of seduction and blood.

This isn't just another monster movie — Coppola turned it into pure operatic romance. Every costume, every set piece, every dramatically lit scene serves the central love story.

Phantom of the Opera.

The 2004 Phantom of the Opera film adaptation brought Andrew Lloyd Webber's beloved musical to the big screen with all the gothic grandeur you could want. While technically a tragic romance, its setting, themes, and aesthetic make it a quintessential piece of gothic horror.

In the depths of the Paris Opera House lives The Phantom, a disfigured musical genius who becomes desperately, obsessively in love with young soprano Christine Daaé. He becomes her secret mentor, coaching her to stardom from the shadows, but his methods grow increasingly dark as he uses terror and violence to enforce his will and keep her bound to him.

The Phantom is the true-hidden monster and obsessed protector — brilliant, emotionally tortured, and lurking in the shadows, but with an incredible musical talent that makes his tragedy even more poignant.

The Phantom Of The Opera is available to rent or buy on Prime Video and Apple TV.
