11 celebrity couples that must never, ever, ever split up.

They really owe it to us, the people, to stay together. Right?

Remember when Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams broke up back in 2007? Yeah, I took that hard.

They were the ultimate couple: both adorable, both Canadian…I mean, they were Allie and Noah, dammit! They just made sense.

So yes, I felt personally let down by those two. Because if they couldn’t make it work, what hope did the rest of us chumps have?

But R-Gos and Rach aren’t the only celebrity couple I feel irrationally attached to and emotionally invested in. Oh no.

I don’t want to exaggerate – but if these celebrity couples ever split, it will mean that Love. Is. Dead.

1. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi.

If these two ever split, you may as well break up with your partner or call your divorce lawyer – because if Ellen and Portia can’t survive, all hope is lost.

They’re basically the loveliest people ever and they always look so chuffed – and imagine how FUN that household would be.

Plus, if they broke up, it would mean the end of the annual Ellen and Portia Christmas Card– and that would be the real tragedy.

2. Michelle and Barack Obama.

Mobama are pretty much the royal family of America.

They’ve been married since 1992, have two daughters and are both EQUALLY impressive humans.

They have the cutest first date stories, they are the ultimate power couple, and Barack even once flew Mish to New York for a date night just because he promised her he would while on the campaign trail.

So yeah – if they ever separated, we’d be pretty devo.

 3. Wills and Kate.

Um, do I even need to explain this one? Wills and Kate touched our cold, cynical hearts by showing us that maybe, just maybe, fairytale romance is possible.

Yes, I know it’s cheesy. Yes, I know it’s a cliché. But come on. Kate married a goddam prince. Therefore they must grow old and gross together.

4. Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.

They’ve been married since 1988 – by Hollywood standards, that’s equivalent to a lifetime already.

Recently Rita was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy and re-constructive surgery, and Tom’s been supporting her every step of the way. I don’t think our emotions could handle it if they ever divorced after that.

5. Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson.

What I love about these two is that they just quietly go about their business and you kind of forget they’re even a thing, until you see a random photo of the two of them together and think, “Oh yeah, those guys. I like them”.

I’ve read before that the best sign of a healthy relationship is no sign of it on Facebook. I bet Diane and old Pacey here NEVER post vom-inducing, lovey-dovey Facebook posts.

6. Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck.

Ben was a bit of a lost soul before he met Jen (Gigli, anyone?), but she seems to have pulled him into line (because I know them personally, of course).

They have three kids together, and always look like they genuinely love each other in pretty much every photo.

I imagine much of their relationship is spent with Jen indulgently rolling her eyes at Ben’s tomfoolery, and I like that mental image. Ergo, no divorce allowed for these two.

7. Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka.

These two just seem like the raddest couple – from their cute marriage announcement on Facebook to their double-date holidays with Elton John and David Furnish.

Plus, we love the idea of Barney from HIMYM being all settled and domesticated.

8. George and Amal Clooney.

Remember how I said Mobama were equally impressive? So too are Amal and George. Geormal. Amarge. Whatever.

She’s a top-notch human rights lawyer who spends her spare time campaigning to have the Elgin Marbles returned to Greece. He’s George Clooney, and he spends his spare time shilling coffee pods.

Plus, no one can channel old-school Hollywood glamour like these two.

9. Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick.

Look, if Carrie Bradshaw and Ferris Bueller can’t make it work, would life even be worth living?

I don’t think I could bear it if my favourite ’80s movie character and my favourite ’90s TV character split. SJP and Matt forever.

10. Elton John and David Furnish.

They’ve been together since 1993, and were legally married in 2014.

They are champions of gay rights and AIDS awareness and have two super cute kids together, as well as being godparents to many celebrity babies.

They both just seem like nice guys – so if they ever separated, we’d be forced to abandon all hope in love.

11. Brangelina.

Yes – this is a controversial choice, and some of us will be #TeamJen for lyf. But even if you are a serious Ange hater, you’ve got to admit that Brangelina have done a lot for the world since first hooking up in 2005.

So if for no other reason than world peace, these two crazy kids can never split.
