It’s that time of week again. For those unfamiliar, this is a safe space to share your best and worst moments of the week that’s been.
I’m going to cheat a little this week (because rules were made to be broken right?) and give you the best and worst of my past week and a half (which has also been my first visit to the city of Sydney). It was a shaky start I must say.
The worst:
(1) Checking into my flight and finding out my luggage was 2 kgs over the weight limit (I knew packing my Magic Bullet for breakfast smoothies was going to come back to bite me). Cue me sitting on the airport ground, crazily shoving anything I can fit (think undies flying everywhere) into my carry-on so I wouldn’t miss my flight.
(2) After having to lug my 20 kg suitcase around the (admittedly amazing) city, four hours later I finally arrived at my accommodation – to find they had forgotten I was coming.
Okay mild panic attack.
I frantically got online and booked into a backpackers. Rookie error. The room smelt not-so-subtly of vomit. The door handle hardly locked & shower was a horror all of it’s own. I couldn’t even bring myself to take my shoes off.
I don’t know if it was the title “private room” that lured me into a false sense of security but the fact I was in a new city, hadn’t even started my internship and things were already going wrong – I did end up having a little cry.
Nothing a good dose of carbs and a snarky swig of vodka didn’t fix.
The best:
Spending the week around a bunch of talented and fiercely intelligent women who write articles that educate, entertain, move and inspire me. It’s been such a great experience being able to intern at Mamamia HQ.
Also seeing the Sydney Opera House was a massive highlight (did you know they sell Opera House Barbie dolls there?! I know what I’m asking for this Christmas).
Enough about me it’s time for you to hit me with your best and worst. Plus I’d love to hear any backpacker/holiday horror stories you have.
