An insider guru reveals what it's really like to be a celebrity's personal assistant.

Do you have it what it takes to be a celebrity assistant? I do. I know this because a veteran in the industry has revealed what it’s like and although the listed requirements may have meant to sound shocking, my millennial ears hear otherwise.

The insider guru that has spoken out is founder and director of The Celebrity Personal Assistant Network Brian Daniels. Daniels revealed to The Independent that twenty years in the industry may put you in touch with the rich and famous but it also puts you out of touch with modern life.

The life of a personal assistant sounds like my regular life but with money. I will compare the two to further illustrate.

Daniels says you need to be able to stay out till 2am and then go to work the next day.

"If a guy is single, you will be going with them to nightclubs, you will be out until two in the morning. You can’t leave."

Daniels, please. If a girl is single, you will be going with them to nightclubs, you will be out until two in the morning and then you will be sitting beside them in a Hungry Jacks or a stranger's living room till four to make sure nothing bad happens.

Daniels says you need to carry multiple phones.

"I had two cell phones and sometimes I’d be carrying my bosses phone as well."

Boo hoo. If I could afford two Telstra phone bills I'd carry two phones too. It'd be like having a much slimmer and lighter backup battery. Also, I'm often the friend with the bag so some nights I can carry up to four and a box of tampons and two to three tubes of lipstick.

Daniels says your definition of emergency will be different to theirs.

"One of my bosses was renting an estate that he was not familiar with. I was sleeping in another part of it and he called me at 3am because he couldn’t find the light and wanted me to turn the light."

Once I took a late night uber from Bondi to Enmore to remove a huntsman that had left my friend white-faced and quivering on the edge of her bathtub.

Daniels says you need to be on call 24/7.

“In any situation I had to be reachable 24 hours a day. On one occasion I slept through all of my phones ringing and I woke-up to the hotel security kicking the door in. They had to forcefully enter my room just to tell me I needed to wake up my boss straight away."

Once I woke up to twelve missed calls and a loud banging sound. My best mate had tried to squeeze through the small gap where my back gate met the fence and had become stuck. It was an emergency. Her ex had finally replied to her: "I miss you" text.

Daniels says you need to be tough.

“A lot of people conceptually believe they would love to work for a celebrity. But you have to have a very, very thick skin and you cannot cry easily. It’s not for someone who is faint of heart."

Once my best friend told me that my newly blonde hair was less Draco Malfoy and more cheese that was growing white mold. Personal assisting doesn't sound too hard. I feel like I've been in the field for years.
