From '90s lips to boho bangs and 'old-money blonde, here are the top beauty trends that will blow up in 2025 — and the ones we're leaving behind.

1. Skinny brows.

Makeup artist Mia Connor told Mamamia, "Big bushy brows are on their way out slowly with a turn down skinny brow lane — who would have thought!"

*Terrified screams*.

"A lot of models have been jumping on this trend, whilst others are adamant it's a no from them. I'm on the fence as I already followed Pammy's lead in 1995 and plucked mine in front of a magnifying mirror the day before school photos," shared Connor.

"Just like everything else in fashion, trends always come back around, and we are living in a '90s reboot era that's looking more expensive than ever and I'm here for it."

2. '90s-inspired lips.

Piggybacking off the skinny brow trend, Connor said we'll also see a '90s makeup revival — particularly when it comes to lips.

"Less surgical fillers, more natural pouts simply enhanced by makeup!" she said. "Contouring around the mouth to enhance the size of your lips is huge right now."

When it comes to nabbing the look for yourself, check out lip contour kits made specifically for lip contouring. Like Revolution Beauty's Lip Contour Kit, $9.60.

As well as contouring around the mouth, Connor also said we'll also see people having more fun with '90s-inspired lips.

"We'll see a lot more subtle overdrawing with liner to make the most of your lips, heading way back to the 90s where the liner is a slightly darker shade of the lipstick/gloss. Base Camp Beauty has dropped a range of the perfect lip liners to up your pout game and leave them guessing whether are they real or not."

3. Brown eyeliner.

It's officially time to retire the black liquid eyeliner — because according to Connor, 2025 will be all about achieving a softer, more subtle definition to your eyes.

Your new go-to? Brown eyeliner.

"A softer approach to liner that gives you definition and shape in a more natural aesthetic which is far more forgiving than black," she shared.

If you're looking for options, Mia Connor Cosmetics - Bruna Liquid Eyeliner, $39, is the sharpest, most precise liner I think I've ever tried.

"It's the perfect shade of warm brown as there are far too many "browns" on the market that look almost black. Made specifically for novices, and word on the street is that I nailed the brief," she shared.

4. Lash curlers.

False lashes and extensions are out and lash curlers are back in, friends.

"Because, after all, lashes are the icing," said Connor. "A lash curler does wonders for a stubborn curl-deprived lash, especially in this clean beauty era that's happening right now."

The best part about this? It's easy, quick and always makes your lashes look a million bucks.

Connor suggested reaching for something like M.A.C Half Lash Curler, $43, to get the job done, "as whose eyes fit in those gigantic ones floating around on the market!?"

5. Lip toppers.

Turns out our current obsession with juicy lips (who else has 300 glosses on the go right now?) isn't going anywhere. In fact, they're only just getting started. Take a look at the beauty shelves and you'll already see an explosion of new lip oils, glosses and shimmery balms. "Lip toppers with sparkles and iridescence are going to be huge," said Connor. "Anything glossy will always make things stand out more."

One of Connor's faves? "Kevyn Aucoin Glass Glow Lip Gloss, $46, has a pearlescent finish that, under different lights, throws an array of beautiful tones. Chef's kiss."

If you're looking for other options, I currently can't get enough of Rimmel Thrill Seeker Glassy Gloss 150 Pink Candy, $21.95 (currently $12.99 at Chemist Warehouse). SO JUICY.

6. Face framing layers.

If you're on the fence about diving into a bob haircut or even a cut that is one length, Nader said face-framing layers are a subtle way to switch up your haircut in the new year.

"Not to be confused with curtain bangs, face-framing layers are much softer and can be tailored to suit every face shape," Nader told us. "These layers typically sit just above the jawline and help give the front of the hair more dimension and movement. If you like to wear your hair up, allowing your face-framing layers to fall soft can add an elegant touch to a bun or ponytail. Face framing is back!"

7. The Italian bob.

According to celebrity hairstylist Anthony Nader, from RAW By Anthony Nader, there's one haircut that's about to blow-up.

"The Italian bob will always be a winner for me — and not just for 2025 either," he shared.

What's so cool and different about the 'Italian bob'?

"Why I tend to sway more towards this classic short hair shape is because it is a chic yet powerful aesthetic of the 1960s," shared Nader.

"It's a chin-length bob cut that typically features minimal layering, resulting in a clean and structured look (which I absolutely love). With a mix of glamour and nonchalant charm, the haircut is perfect for embracing 'la dolce vita' this season and re-runs of White Lotus Season 2 for good measure."

Where do we sign up?

8. Boho bangs.

If you've wanted a fringe since forever, 2025 could be your chance to finally take the leap. "These bangs are definitely goal-setting for anyone who is poor on time, but wants to look totally cool without even having to try."

Read: The kind of fringe we lazy girls have all been waiting for.

"I've been cutting in these 'laid back' looking bangs on my clients for the last month or two because they want less maintenance over the holidays and give a soft and lived-in vibe right away," Nader told us. "These bangs aren't cut blunt nor precise and only soft and feminine."

"They really do suit every face shape because of how it's tailored with the cutting method and length established."

9. 'Old money' blonde.

Blonde and blondes-to-be, this one's for you!

From 'old money manicures' to 'old money hair', it seems like we're just getting started, with Nader predicting 'old money blonde' to be the colour of the moment in 2025.

"That over-processed peroxide blonde hair strands will make an exit for 2024 and we'l be saying hello to yummy lush blondes like cashmere blonde, champagne blonde and old money blonde," said Nader.

"This year is all about seeing blondes appear more smooth, rich and glossy, without that starkness to it. These 2025 new blondes will also sit perfectly with skin complexions as well."

10. Polished hair.

Question: How many hair gloss treatments have you spotted on the beauty shelves as of late? Just what we thought.

They're everywhere. And for good reason.

"At the end of the day, women crave mirror-finish hair… fact! Who doesn't want that high voltage sheen that reflects health/well-being and radiance?" Nader said.

"To back up my 2025 prediction, another shiny hair moment that I just adored was the recent Chanel 2024/25 Metiers d'art runway show in China. The model's hair was next level high shine and just oozed luxe health."

11. Hair serums.

In 2025, hair serums are going nowhere. In fact, our obsession with all things hair health will continue to reign supreme, with one caveat — don't overdo it.

"My biggest tip for 2025 when applying your styling product, is always start off with less," said Nader. "You can always build up the hair foundation to feel stronger/grittier if you require little by little. Oh, and don't be afraid of serums either, they're wonderful and work a treat when applied correctly."

"I always apply a few drops in my palms to damp hair only. The reason why you've probably found your hair has gone oily or dirtier when using a serum is because you've applied it onto dry hair. This in turn won't absorb into the hair cuticle and therefore sits on top which then weighs hair strands down.

One of Nader's faves? Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil, $90. We also love Kérastase Elixir Ultime Hair Oil, $55 and L'Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil Treatment, $21.99.

12. Increased personalisation.

Mamamia also spoke with L'Oréal's Chief Marketing Officer for ANZ, Georgia Hack, about what we can expect on the beauty tech and innovation front. One of the biggest areas set to supercharge the beauty industry in the year ahead? Increased personalisation.

"Looking to the future of beauty trends, we're moving towards a landscape where physical and digital worlds are continuing to entwine, creating a new level of personalisation," Hack told us. "We all know how technology has already opened up the beauty landscape, particularly through the rise of social media, with beauty influencers dominating these platforms to share their viral beauty recommendations and hacks."

"According to Cosmetics Design USA, TikTok has driven an estimated US $31.7 billion in beauty sales. AI and technology will take this one step further by enabling consumers to create their own perfectly curated routine to suit their unique needs in an instant," she shared.

From virtual makeup artist consultations to 'touch and try' buying experiences and highly personalised, data-driven product recommendations — the innovation and technology in this category is only going to explode, offering new and exciting experiences in beauty.

"The analysis provided by this kind of technology is so advanced, that it's able to read things like clinical imaging technology to determine your personal attributes and provide a recommendation suited to you. These innovations will enable consumers to access expert advice at their fingertips, saving significantly on time and cost by removing the trial-and-error aspect, as well as reducing the decision paralysis we can feel when we're looking at what products to buy."

13. Simplified routines.

In 2025, the 10-step skincare routines will officially be put to rest.

"Increasingly, we are looking to cut out unnecessary products and steps from our skincare and beauty routines," shared Hack.

"Consumers want access to products that are effective and hardworking without having to pay through the nose. This pairs with an increased awareness in the science behind each product, as we're more interested now than ever in understanding what is actually in our beauty, skincare and haircare products and the environmental footprint that they have."

"This trend will further empower consumers and increase the need for brands to focus on sustainability more holistically across the whole value chain. It's no longer enough to offer products in recyclable packaging, as consumers are demanding to know the full picture of a product as well as knowing it will be effective. Ultimately this trend is all about removing wastage in our beauty routines through a focus on a smaller number of highly effective and sustainable products."

As technology and AI continue to advance, our skincare routines will become more and more of an individualised experience, cutting out the need for unnecessary products.

"Complicated routines are on their way out — beauty products need to be effective so we can use fewer but better products. This is good for both for our purse strings as well as time!"

We love to see it!

14. Pleasure seekers.

"The pursuit of pleasure is no longer a 'nice to have' but a necessity to combat burn-out and loneliness," Hack told Mamamia. "Escapism provides the opportunity for exploration as we wish to be transported to a new world."

"We see the rise of dopamine beauty where consumers experiment with colour to improve their mood. With self-expression on display, we see consumers delight in maximalist looks and trends. This trend has extended into the fragrance world where scent has become a mood-enhancing hack for your next event."

After all, isn't that what beauty is all about?
