For a brief moment, the internet was convinced Barack Obama and Jennifer Aniston were having an affair.

It's no secret that the internet loves nothing more than a completely unhinged celebrity rumour. And boy, have we been served a juicy one.

In what can only be described as peak internet chaos, rumours about Jennifer Aniston and Barack Obama having an affair set social media ablaze — and honestly, we have questions. Many questions.

The speculation first kicked off back in July 2024, when tabloid magazine In Touch Weekly published a cover story dramatically titled 'The Truth About Jen & Barack'.

"The goss is… Michelle and Barack are living separate lives, and Barack is f**king Jennifer Aniston," InTouch reported.

Like most celebrity gossip, it spread like wildfire across social media, with everyone's group chats suddenly becoming amateur detective agencies. But here's the thing — there was literally zero evidence to support any of it.

None. Zip. Nada.

The timing couldn't have been more perfect (or awkward), considering it was right around Barack and Michelle Obama's 32nd wedding anniversary. The speculation got so out of hand that it even got tangled up with completely unfounded rumours about trouble in the Obamas' marriage. Because apparently, we can't let any famous couple live in peace.

The Friends star wasn't having any of it though, and in true Jennifer Aniston fashion, she tackled the rumours head-on during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in October 2024.

"Of all the calls you get from your publicist where you're just like, 'Oh, no, what's it gonna be?', or you get an email saying some cheesy tabloid is gonna make up a story — and then it's that," Aniston said.

"I was not mad at it," she added, before clarifying, "That [it] is absolutely untrue."

So, Aniston made it crystal clear that she and Obama are just friends — and barely even that. Which makes sense, considering she was probably too busy debunking other wild rumours about herself, like apparently installing a "$4,000 anti-ageing water filter" for her dogs. (Seriously, who comes up with these things?)

Despite both parties either denying or completely ignoring the nonsense, the rumours have somehow managed to resurface again in 2025. Because apparently, we learnt nothing from 2024.

This time the rumours are focusing on Michelle's absence at both Jimmy Carter's funeral and Donald Trump's inauguration. Although Barack Obama posted a heartfelt birthday message for her, speculation about their marriage seems to be going strong.

"Happy birthday to the love of my life,@MichelleObama. You fill every room with warmth, wisdom, humour, and grace — and you look good doing it. I'm so lucky to be able to take on life's adventures with you. Love you!" he wrote on Instagram.

One Daily Mail headline read, 'Obama Seen Dining Alone in D.C. on Inauguration Eve Amid Growing Rumours About Jennifer Aniston After Michelle's No-Show.'

So there you have it, folks. Another day, another completely bonkers celebrity rumour. At least it gave us something to talk about in our group chats, right?

Now, can we please go back to discussing more important things? Like whether Jennifer Aniston really has a black belt in jiu-jitsu? (Spoiler alert: she doesn't).
