What we see is “a very contrived situation”.
As Snezana stole Bachelor Sam Wood’s heart, it was his father’s goatee and peculiar pronunciation of ‘Snezana’ that stole hearts right across the nation.
Self-confessed introvert Andrew Wood, who admitted to having never watched an episode of The Bachelor in his life, was as endearing as he was utterly likeable in Thursday nights much anticipated season finale, which saw him share tea with his son’s final two contestants.
“I’d never watched the show, so I had no idea how large it was all going to turn out to be. I certainly didn’t expect for me to be any part of it whatsoever,” the father of three told 936 ABC Hobart radio host, Melanie Tait on Friday night.
Despite being pleased with the end result, and feeling that the show was an accurate representation of what his son is like in real life, the television novice described the prospect of appearing on one of the highest-rating TV shows in the country as “extremely daunting”.
Remembering the day he met Snezana and Lana as part of what is “a very contrived situation”, which necessitated that he be “‘TV Ready’ at 5am”, Wood revealed that he struggled with the task of filming in front of a set of sixty people.
“I got a bit emotional…I was just overwhelmed with the whole thing, I thought ‘I’m not going to cope here’ and we hadn’t even started filming.” he explained.
The episode was an emotional rollercoaster, and included footage of both Andrew, a widower, and Snezana wiping back tears as they discussed love and the importance of family.
While Andrew was surprised that editors chose to air his breakdown in the episode, he was somewhat undeterred by its inclusion.
“Now I’ve seen the final result I’m quite comfortable with what they’ve done”.
It was the weeks following filming that proved tough for a notoriously reserved Wood, with one family holiday alongside son Sam and daughter Hannah to Byron Bay proving particularly challenging, with the trio being ambushed by paparazzi.
