Avril Lavigne was writing a breakup album. Then she fell in love with her producer.

In 2020, renowned pop punk singer Avril Lavigne swore off dating for good.

After a string of self-diagnosed disastrous relationships - including two marriages - she decided to have an official "break". 

"I was like, 'I need a break from men,'" the singer told PEOPLE, before adding, "then two days later that all went out the window!"

On the first day of recording for a new album - filled with angsty, pop punk ballads and liners on heartache, grief and break ups - she met rocker Mod Sun during a songwriting session... And the rest, as they say, is history. 

"I followed my heart," she admitted before saying jumped into a relationship with him "immediately".

"I was getting out of a big relationship, and for the first time in my life, I thought I should probably be single. I got together with [Mod Sun] to write a song. We just clicked. I was like, 'Should you be doing this?' 

"It was fun and exciting, and I decided, 'F--- it. Life's short.' I'm a Libra. I love love."

The pair sparked relationship rumours for the first time in as early as February 2021. They've collaborated on a number of projects together, including Sun's 'Flames' and they co-wrote and produced several tracks of her new album, Love Sux. 

"We bonded over music," said Lavigne. 

Right before she met Sun, it was reported that she had been romantically linked with billionaire Philip Sarofim. According to sources, they dated for a year before calling it quits. 

It did get us thinking though: who exactly has the pop punk princess of the 2000s been romantically involved with? 

The list may surprise you.

Chad Kroeger. 

The Grammy-nominated singer met Nickelback musician Chad Kroeger in 2012 while working on her self-titled album, Avril Lavigne.

They decided to marry after just one month of dating and tied the knot in July 2013, where they had an intimate ceremony in the South of France.

Sadly, the pair would announce their divorce in an Instagram post by September 2015. 

"It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today. Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support," she wrote. 

The pair still remain close, with Lavigne telling PEOPLE earlier this year that she was "really grateful to have had someone like him in my life".

It may be a surprising revelation if you don't keep up to date with every single detail concerning the extended family of the Kardashian clan, but both Lavigne and the older brother to Kendall and Kylie Jenner dated for approximately two years after meeting in 2010. 

During their relationship, they even got each other's names tattooed on eachother. 

The split, reported the Daily Mail, came about after discussions of marriage turned ugly.

Deryk Whibley. 

Deryck Whibley was the singer's first serious boyfriend, and at the time, she was just 17-years-old. Whibley, who is a member of the rock band Sum 41, remained just friends with the A-lister until years later.

In 2005, the pair were engaged, and they wed in Montecito, California a year later.

By 2008 though, the announcement of their divorce was sadly made. She said that she was "grateful" for their time together and was thankful for their "remaining friendship". 

Both parties moved on, with Whibley going on to remarry model Ariana Cooper in 2015. The pair now share a child together who was born in March 2021.

Wilmer Valderrama.

Lavigne met the That 70s Show actor following her divorce from Whibley. While the two quickly became an item, their relationship was never officially confirmed - despite being photographed with each other multiple times.

Jesse Colburn. 

Jesse Colburn was a member of Lavigne's band in the early 2000s. The duo had a relationship between 2002 and 2004, but the pair did not go the distance. 

In 2004, Colburn left the band, to which Lavigne reportedly said at the time: "He just wanted to go do his own thing and stuff, and I mean, that happens."
