How does a diary help women with breast cancer?

For 15 years the Australian Women’s Health Diary has been inspiring women to make a difference to their own lives, as well as to the lives of others.

Since 1999 this special diary has raised $9 million for the Breast Cancer Institute of Australia to support lifesaving clinical trials research for the treatment, prevention and cure of breast cancer.

Women throughout Australia are brought together by their love of the diary and their commitment to helping provide a brighter future for women with breast cancer and their families.

Susan Irvine of Leitchville, Victoria loves the health information in the diary and reads through it with her children to make them aware of the importance of good health, but her main motivation for buying the diary is very personal. Susan says: “My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer 10 years ago and is now a survivor. Buying the diary is a simple symbol of my family’s support for breast cancer research, plus we get a beautiful diary to use.”

Amy Saxon of Kariong, NSW has two young daughters and wants to ensure they have a healthy future. Amy says: “Breast cancer unfortunately runs in my family, with a close family member recently being diagnosed and another passing away from the disease. I love that I’m helping to support research by purchasing a diary. Plus it’s the best diary I have found! It reminds me of my health checks throughout the year and motivates me to stay healthy.”

Angela Mandie-Filer of O’Connor, ACT has purchased the diary every year since 1999 and says it is her way of doing something positive to help women diagnosed with breast cancer. “I am grateful for all that the Breast Cancer Institute of Australia is doing to reduce and eliminate breast cancer. The diary has helped me become a healthier person and understand my body better. The health messages are very rich and useful for women of all ages and situations.”
