It is a truth universally acknowledged that if you post something stupid on the internet there is a high likelihood it will go viral… And yet people continue to post stupid things on the internet.
The latest example of this logical disconnect comes from 22-year-old Colleen Cudney, from Michigan. Welcome to internet notoriety, Colleen! Please, come on up to the stage…
Cudney, who has been under strict orders not to drink since a drunk-driving conviction in 2012, was pulled over for a breath test on St Patrick’s Day, in the wee hours of the morning
She passed.
But then she went home, and posted this message on social media: “Buzz killer for me, I had to breathalyze (sic) this morning and I drank yesterday but I passed thank god lol my dumba@@”.
Unfortunately for Colleen, a local police officer spotted her Facebook status and alerted her probation officer.
The comedy of errors continued from there.
The probation officer then contacted Cudney to schedule a urine test, which is able to detect if an individual has consumed any alcohol within an 80-hour period. Cudney panicked, and hung up on her probation officer – and in doing so, violated her probation terms which were expected to end in a few short weeks.
The last time we saw a case that constituted a mistake of this level, was when a teenager in the US cost her family $80,000, after she violated a court’s confidentiality clause.
In short: don’t drink and Facebook, kids.
And on a more serious note: don’t drink and drive, obviously. There’s a reason it’s illegal.
So, should some people just not use Facebook?
