Is this outfit 'too old' for a 26-year-old?

Emma Morris is 26 years old, but she's constantly told her clothes are ageing her.

In a video posted to her TikTok channel, the British content creator and mum of one asked her followers for advice on her go-to outfit.

"I get told all the time that I dress too old for my age," she shared, wearing a long-sleeve grey t-shirt and pale blue skinny jeans.

"But it's literally just a basic outfit, how can it be that wrong?" she added.

Morris has a point. There's nothing objectively wrong with her outfit — it's about as standard as it gets; absent any accessories or overt styling cues that might influence your impression of the woman in the clothes.

But according to her audience, somehow it's giving middle-aged woman.

"I had a lot of people saying I need to try wide-leg jeans instead, because that's going to transform my look apparently," the creator proposed, before putting that theory to the test with a haul of looser-fit denim options from UK high street brands Zara, River Island, Only and Stradivarius.

From the moment Morris zips up the first pair of baggy blue jeans, her outfit reads as more modern. But arguably, that has more to do with our changing eye for denim trends.

Baggy jeans weren't always the Gen-Z uniform — remember that 10 years ago, you'd be hard-pressed to find a 26-year-old NOT in skinny jeans.

In the last decade, silhouettes shifted. Skinny jeans became a token of millennial style; a fashion fossil marked in time — that's if you buy into the online rhetoric around them. Last time we checked, clothes don't come with an age range on the tag like outfits for toddlers do. And you can still buy slim-fitting jeans at almost any denim retailer — they remain a popular style.

So it's understandable that Morris, a creator known for her relatable content about mum life, was oblivious to how her pants were "ageing" her.

Her TikTok video has amassed over six million views and 7600 comments since it was posted on September 24, attracting internet attention from far and wide. Because if there's one thing everyone loves to weigh in on, it's how old a woman looks, could look, and should look.

"The second you changed into the first outfit you dropped 10 years," one user shared in the comments section.

"Skinny jeans definitely age people, they're a millennial thing and you're Gen Z!", another added.

It wasn't just the outfit her followers had opinions on — Morris' choice of makeup, hairstyle, her voice and overall "vibe" were under scrutiny, too. Some suggested she should opt for a middle part rather than her side part, or lose the highlights in her hair as "they'll age anyone".

"I think your makeup style is leaning quite mature, with the matte full coverage foundation. Dewy makeup tends to look more youthful," one user suggested.

Many commented that she just *seems* older than her years because of her maturity, and the outfit only affirms it.

"I'm 32 and there is no way in hell I would think you were 26. Your vibe is giving late 30's early 40's," one viewer shared.

At the end of the clip, Morris chose a pair of straight-leg blue "Join Life" jeans from Zara as her winner and asked her audience how old she looked now.

We'll let you be the judge.
