The Sex and the City reunion we were cruelly denied.

In a juicy revelation that has Sex and the City fans everywhere gasping (in our best Charlotte York voices), Kristin Davis has spilt the tea on a reunion that nearly happened in the reboot series And Just Like That.

During a recent episode of her podcast 'Are You a Charlotte?', Davis revealed that writers had planned a storyline where her character ,Charlotte York-Goldenblatt, would bump into her first husband Trey MacDougal, played by Kyle MacLachlan.

And while I may not have been Trey's biggest fan in SATC, I can't lie… I would like to see it!

For those who need a refresher: Charlotte and cardiothoracic surgeon Trey had a whirlwind romance that quickly spiralled into a marriage plagued by sexual dysfunction, fertility struggles, and a meddling mother-in-law (the unforgettable Bunny MacDougal). Their story arc concluded in season 4, when the pair divorced after realising that they wanted different things.

But alas, the reunion was not to be. MacLachlan declined to reprise his role, leaving fans to wonder what might have been if Charlotte and Trey crossed paths in their 50s.

"Michael Patrick [King] has this thing where he doesn't like us to talk about ideas for stories that didn't happen," Davis said. "But I'm just gonna tell you guys that there was an idea that Trey/Kyle would come on And Just Like That, and then it didn't happen. And so Kyle and I had to talk about it, because I was kinda mad at him. I said, 'Why didn't you come on? We wanted you to come on.'"

The reason? The storyline was just too sad.

"He said, 'I just wanted it to be amazing,' meaning that it had a kind of almost a sad note. I think I'm not saying too much. I hope Michael's not gonna be mad at me. There was a bit of a sad note, but it had this incredible lead up to me seeing Trey again," Davis explained.

"When you have played such a wonderful part in the past that people have such a great memory of, and it was so special as a work experience, you want it to kind of stay in this, kind of, glorious place. I think he just didn't want there to be kind of a sad note to the end. So I get that. I get that."

While we're sad this didn't come to fruition, it's not entirely surprising. MacLachlan has been busy with numerous projects since his SATC days, including roles in Twin Peaks: The Return, Carol's Second Act, and Atlantic Crossing.

This revelation comes as And Just Like That continues to navigate life without some of its most famous characters, including Samantha Jones (following Kim Cattrall's limited return in season 2) and Mr. Big who, well… died in season 1.

The scrapped plot raises intriguing questions for fans. Would Trey have changed? Would there have been closure? Or perhaps — in true Sex and the City fashion— would it have been wonderfully awkward? I guess we'll never know.
