Amy Poehler and John Stamos went on a date... except she didn't know it was a date.

Time has a way of making us forget everything - including the (very brief) dating stories of some of our celebrities.

This includes the short, and frankly thrilling, story of Amy Poehler and John Stamos, who have been in the celebrity stratosphere for decades. 

The actors, who both starred in the 2014 romantic comedy film They Came Together, once had a moment.

In 2012, Poehler and fellow actor Will Arnett announced their separation after nine years of marriage. It wouldn't be until her 2014 memoir where we learnt her true feelings behind the breakdown of their relationship. 

"I don’t want to talk about my divorce because it is too sad and too personal. I also don’t like people knowing my s**t," she wrote in Yes Please.

"I will say a few things. I am proud of how my ex-husband, Will, and I have been taking care of our children; I am beyond grateful he is their father; and I don’t think a [nearly] 10-year marriage constitutes failure. That being said, getting a divorce really sucks."

It was also the same year Poehler admitted she sorta, kinda, almost went on a date with Stamos, while shooting for They Came Together.

While on The Howard Stern Show, the comedian explained she hadn't been "foxy" when she agreed to dinner with Stamos.

"I remember I was at dinner with John Stamos... and I was like, 'Oh, maybe this is a date!'... but I blew it," she explained. 

"I remember thinking, like, 'Oh s**t, if this is really a date, I think I was wearing a Leslie Knope shirt - I think a shirt from [the set of Parks and Recreation]. I wasn't foxy."

Stamos clarified the situation weeks later, telling Extra that their dinner date was indeed... a date.

"We're really good friends... I guess she didn't know it was a date," he explained.

"I asked her out on a date... and we had a really nice time. Then I hear she thought it wasn't a date. It was a date in my eyes."

Stamos moved on in 2016 when he met fellow actor Caitlin McHugh on the set of Law And Order: SVU. 

The pair later welcomed a son named Billy in April 2018. 

"From now on, the best part of me will always be my wife and my son," Stamos shared with fans at the time of his son's birth.

He later told Today how thankful he was to be an older dad.

"I'm very grateful to the gods or to the universe or whatever that I'm an older father. I couldn't have handled it earlier," he explained. "I've wanted kids my whole life. I figured, 'I can't wait to be a father, I've been a TV father,' but it's a whole different ballgame,"

Poehler began dating actor Nick Kroll in 2013, and told People dating had become juicier when she reached her 40s.

"I find my relationships at 40-plus are really emulsified, juicy relationships because you have more of a sense of who you are and who you want to be around," she explained. "Talented men are not threatened by talented women. They welcome them. And same way with real men."

The pair, who split in 2020, have remained close friends.
