Let's all just take a moment to appreciate Keanu Reeves in Netflix's Always Be My Maybe.

Look, let’s just cut straight to the point.

Keanu Reeves is the best actor alive and Hollywood absolutely does not deserve him.

From that time he took a multi-million dollar paycut so that The Matrix’s makeup and special effects artists could earn more money to that time when the actor entertained a planeload of his fellow stranded passengers, Keanu Reeves has made himself known as the nicest guy in Hollywood.

And this weekend, the world’s collective love and adoration for the 54-year-old Canadian grew even stronger.

Over the weekend, a new rom-com dubbed 2019’s When Harry Met Sally showed up on our Netflix screens – Always Be My Maybe.

The film, starring Ali Wong as Sasha and Randall Park as Marcus, follows two childhood friends and one-time college lovers who reconnect later in life. As their feelings for each other return and grow after meeting again as adults, the pair come across a number of obstacles – including none other than Keanu Reeves.

But the best part? Keanu Reeves was actually playing Keanu Reeves.

Well, a heightened caricature of himself at least…

From weeping over his meal at the dinner table to requesting a dish that “plays with time”, the cameo scenes are truly next level.

Here’s just some of the reasons why Reeves was hands down the best part about Always Be My Maybe:

1. The pretentious dinner scene.

The first time we see Reeves in Always Be My Maybe, he walks into a restaurant in the way we imagine he probably walks the earth in real life – in slow motion with all eyes on him.

Reeves, who is dating celebrity chef Sasha in the film, has a PDA-filled reunion with her before pretentiously requesting a dish for dinner that “plays with time”.

After being served his meal, alongside an actual audio recording of the animal he is eating, Reeves weeps over his dinner as he eats it.

It’s… brilliant.

The scene also led to the creation of the greatest Twitter account of all time – Keanu Reeves Walking to Music.

And yes, it’s pretty much exactly what it sounds like:

2. The game night scene.

Later on in the film, the group head to Reeves’ penthouse suite, where they play a few games.

As tensions over jealously boil over, Marcus name-drops John Wick before punching Reeves in the face.

“It was the best,” Park admitted. “It was great in part because Keanu was so into it. He was in John Wick mode.”

Look, if we had the chance to punch Keanu Reeves in the face and live to tell the tale, we’d be pretty stoked too.

3. The ‘I Punched Keanu Reeves’ song.

If you watched until the end credits of Always Be My Maybe, you may have been blessed enough to hear ‘I Punched Keanu Reeves’.

If ‘I Punched Keanu Reeves’ isn’t nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song, then I don’t know what will be.

According to Ali Wong, many of Reeves’s scenes in the move were actually improvised, including the lensless glasses he wore and the “I missed your soul” exchange he had when reuniting with Sasha.

“At the Chateau Marmont, he pitched a couple of things that made it in. Like wearing glasses that had no lens,” Wong told Rolling Stone.

“And the part in the game night scene where he lists all of these Chinese dignitaries, that was all his idea. And when he says, ‘I don’t have a problem, Sasha. What’s your problem?’ and starts air-fighting. It’s hard to describe just how shockingly funny he is.”

In the same interview, Wong shared why she wanted Reeves for the part.

“We were like, ‘Who’s a dude that would be Marcus’ worst nightmare for Sasha to start dating once he realises he’s been in love with her his entire life? Like, an iconic Asian man. Keanu Reeves,'” Wong told the magazine.

Although landing Reeves for the role seemed like a long shot, it turns out the actor had seen Wong’s Netflix special Baby Cobra and was interested in Always Be My Maybe.

“I basically made Netflix spend all this money on a movie just so I could kiss Daniel Dae Kim and Keanu Reeves,” she told Ellen DeGeneres.

Honestly, we don’t blame her.
