Molly Sano adopted her son Bennett in February 2014.
Bennett, whose Chinese name is Long Miao, was born to a poor family in the city of Ningbo. According to China Daily, he was abandoned. With him when he was found was a note that read, “We don’t know what else to do. We’re too poor to bring him up. We hope someone can help him.”
The three-year-old boy was born without hearing. He suffers Usher syndrome, a rare genetic condition that means he will be blind by the time he turns 20, The Telegraph reports. Santo’s wish is that her son can have the chance to see his biological parents before his sight deteriorates.
“We want to let them know he is safe and happy and that we love him,” Sano said in an online video posted on Chinese social networking sight Weibo.
“We have talked about China since he first came home and we want to really honour his birth country and give him the opportunity to meet the family who gave him life.”
